Early Literacy Kits are kits that help young children build early literacy skills through selected books, toys, and suggested activities. I built these kits from the beginning to current circulation.
Pictured here are the completed early literacy kits at Town Hall Library in North Lake, WI.
The kits were created using a grant from the Bridges Library System, which I applied for and received. They were created using the Every Child Ready to Read curriculum and the Wisconsin Early Learning Standards Curriculum Guidelines.
I curated and created the contents of all kits, using input from other libraries in my system and around the country.
I created the kits with input from my director and help from other children's librarians in my system. I also based my kits on other early literacy kits available at another library in my library system.
To complete this project, I worked with my library system to obtain a grant and was able to create a budget and purchase the items needed for our kits.
The kits have been very popular at our library and have circulated over twenty times each since they were introduced.
